Our Youth and Outreach Fund

Posted by 14 Dec, 2011

Dear Community Member:

As we celebrate the one year anniversary of Akasha Studio (our partner studio) we reflect upon the work we have done and our goals for the future.  As some of you may know, our director, Anthe Kelley, founded the greater silence corporation, a 501 c 3 non-profit, in Spring of 2010 and got off to a great start with a summer camp at the Frederick Pilot Middle School.  She opened Akasha Studio in JP in December of that same year, and has since worked to build a base that can provide both a sanctuary within our neighborhood community, and at the same time serve as a venue to reach out to more sectors within the broader-community, particularly in the areas of outreach work.  We are fortunate to have teachers such as Karuna O’Donnell and Mary Thomas who specialize in community outreach programs and have been working in various schools and centers for years.

We at Akasha Studio and the greater silence corporation are dedicated to uplifting, supporting and strengthening body, mind and spirit through the many channels and tools available to us.  Through the mindfulness, sense of peace and possibility gained through yoga and meditation practices we have seen people transform at their most essential level.  Our intention is to offer this vital work in our schools, rehabilitation and community centers, and in our own studio sanctuary.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to launch these programs in 2012.  Your generosity now will help us offer these opportunities to the many individuals who can benefit from them.  Your generous donation of any amount will enter you into a raffle to win a 10-Class Pass at Akasha Studio.

You can make a tax-deductible donation through FirstGiving here http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/greatersilence-akasha/youthandoutreachfund, or send a check made out to “the greater silence corporation” and send it to 14 Meehan St. #2 Boston, MA 02130.

We are thrilled to be able to work within our community in ways that empower our true strength and essence as individuals and as a collective.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous support.  It will make a difference!  And please forward this to anyone whom you think might be interested.

In light and deepest gratitude,

The Akasha Studio and the greater silence Team

Looking for Volunteer Teachers!

Posted by 8 Nov, 2010

We are looking for dedicated yogins who are able to share one hour a week with students in a Boston Public School.  You can take a class on for a session of eight weeks, or for the remainder of the school year…you decide.  If you have the time and resources to give the gift of yoga, channeled through your wise and patient teaching, then you would be so greatly received and appreciated by us and the school you choose to teach at!

There are immediate positions available at an elementary school in Roslindale and a middle school in Dorchester.  There is also a possibility for starting a program for parents, teachers and administrators in a given school.  Please let us know if this is more in line with your calling.

Please email info@thegreatersilence.com for more information, or call 339.532.7500.

We so appreciate your generosity!!

A New School Year…a New Budget

Posted by 5 Sep, 2010

We are starting fresh this new school year, and with it comes the need for a new budget. As there is growing interest from Boston’s schools, we wish to meet this by being able to deliver our high-quality, highly-conscious creative yoga programs to their young students. Please help us to do this by giving as generously as you can! Every little bit counts, and every donation is fully tax-deductible as we are a 501 (c) (3) organization (Fed. Tax ID# 26-4699268)  Thank you for helping to expand our program’s reach to more students in Boston!

As we recently communicated to a local school:  “The yoga program we would be able to offer you (depending upon the particular age group) would include yoga (as a physical practice), journaling/discussion and photography.  These would all be intertwined to complement each other and the basic teachings of harmony, balance, clarity, awareness, and, in turn, overall health that is yoga.”

This particular administrator’s response?   “Sounds like a program we need.”

Please help our organization to meet Boston’s need– and wish– to expand the opportunities and perspectives of our young people!!!

Your donation is enormously appreciated!!
